Tensions are increasing between China and Taiwan. On October 1, China celebrated its National Day and in a display of its military power, the People’s Liberation Army of China flew 38 fighter aircraft in Taiwan’s defense airspace. Now the statement of Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen has come out in this matter.
Shee warned that if China occupied Taiwan, it would have dire and disastrous consequences across Asia. The President of Taiwan has written this article in Foreign Affairs magazine. Shee said that Taiwan does not want a military confrontation, but Taiwan will not miss doing whatever it has to do to protect itself.
Significantly, her statement has come at a time when China is putting tremendous pressure on Taiwan. Taiwan sees itself as a self-governing democratic island, but China believes that Taiwan is part of it. Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that Taiwan will definitely be annexed by China.
China has been continuously trying to occupy Taiwan
On China’s National Day, 38 fighter jets flew twice over Taiwan’s airspace on Friday and it was described as the biggest encroachment by China so far. Since the 2016 presidential elections in Taiwan, China has increased military, diplomatic and economic pressure in the region as Ing-wen won these elections and continues to consider Taiwan an independent nation. It has also been repeatedly said that Taiwan is not a part of China.
Significantly, despite being a superpower, China has not yet been able to launch a military attack on Taiwan, an island smaller than Cuba. Taiwan’s language and ancestors are only 180 km from China, but the political system there is quite different. However, China has been trying to put Taiwan under pressure by demonstrating its military capability.
