World Health Organization (WHO) Chief Adhanom Ghebreyesus has said that the corona epidemic will end when the world wants to end it. It is in our hands. He said that we have all the necessary equipment. We can stop this disease. We can test it and then treat it.
He said that last week the WHO reported about 4 Million (40 lakhs) corona cases. In the past four weeks, on average, there has been an 80% increase in COVID-19 infections among the WHO’s six regions. During this time there has been an increase of 80% in deaths in Africa.
Most of the cases coming out around the world are of the delta variant. It is known that this variant also caused a lot of devastation in the second wave of corona virus that came in India this year. The WHO has warned that the corona virus has been continuously changing since it was first reported and will continue to change in the times to come. So far, four variants of concern have been revealed.
The WHO chief further said that the organization is supporting countries regarding the supply of oxygen, as well as helping countries with guidance to better locate the variant. He added, “WHO’s goal is to help every country vaccinate at least 10% of its population by the end of September, and at least 40% by the end of this year and 70% by the middle of next year.” “We are a long way from achieving those goals,” the WHO chief said.
