How did valentine day start
According to a book called ‘Aurea of Jacobus de Vorazin’, Saint Valentin was a pastor of Rome. He believed in promoting love in the world. Life was in love for him. But Claudius, a king of the same city, did not like them. The king felt that love and marriage destroyed both men’s intelligence and power. For this reason, soldiers and officers in his state could not marry.
However, Saint Valentin opposed this order of King Claudius and inspired the Romans for love and marriage. Not only this, he also got many officers and soldiers married. This provoked the king and he executed Saint Valentin on 14 February 269. From that day every year this day is celebrated as ‘Day of love’. Saint Valentin is said to have donated his eyes to the jailer’s blind daughter Jacobus at the time of his death. Saint also wrote a letter to Jacobus, at the end of which he wrote ‘Your Valentine’. This was the story of Valentine being sacrificed for love.
