Valentine’s Day has become so popular all over the world that this day is no longer dependent on any identity. The second week of February is called the week of love. February 14 is the last day of this week. There are different beliefs around the world regarding the beginning of this day.

Today is February 14 i.e Valentine’s Day. On this day people from all over the world express their love for their lovers, friends and partners through gifts and special messages. On this occasion, the search engine Google told through a doodle that how Valentine’s Day started. According to the doodle, during the Middle Ages, European countries such as England and France believed that February 14 was the beginning of mating season for birds. This was linked to love and this day was celebrated as a festival of romance. Then by the 17th century, it became more popular all over the world.

There are many different beliefs around the world about the beginning of Valentine’s Day. Valentine is mentioned in the book named ‘Auria of Jacobus de Varajin’. This day is celebrated in the name of Saint Valentine, a priest of Rome. It is said that Saint Valentine believed in promoting love in the world, but Emperor Claudius of Rome did not like this and was against love marriage. He banned marriage and engagement in Rome. Pastor Valentine felt the emperor’s order as an injustice to the people. Opposing this, he also got many officers and soldiers married. After this he was hanged on 14 February.

It is also believed that Valentine’s Day originated in ancient Rome, when the festival of Lupercalia was celebrated from February 13 to February 15. On these days a goat and a dog were sacrificed by the men and then the women were beaten with the skin of these sacrificed animals. It was believed that this improves the fertility of women.

A match-making lottery was also conducted during this festival. Men used to take out the names of women from a jar and became couples with the woman whose name came out of the jar. The festival of Lupercalia was transformed into Valentine’s Day in the 3rd century AD.
