The British government on Wednesday (August 4) approved the very first year of the Turing scheme program, which replaces the European Erasmus program in the United Kingdom after Brexit.
In a statement, Education Minister Gavin Williamson claimed that higher education system with nearly half of the places reserved for participants from disadvantaged backgrounds around the world. Till the announcement the higher education system was benefited people from the most privileged backgrounds that are why European system was always in the debate.
Due to Brexit, Uk is leaving Erasmus where UK had been participating in the Erasmus program since 1987 for higher education exchanges.
Newly launched the first edition of the Turing program, offering the students of British Universities where they plan to place 28,000 students from British universities in European countries. The new touring program also covers countries outside Europe, such as Canada, Japan and the United States.
However, the university spokesperson for the Labor Party updated that the Turing program, funded to the tune of 110 million pounds (129 million Euros), will not cover travel and living expenses not tuition fees abroad.
The new program also does not provide for reciprocity for European students studying in the UK (currently around 150,000), making their enrollment more complicated and costly.
