This city has become strict about urinating in the sea [TKB Europe]

The city of Vigo in the Spanish state of Galicia has implemented a rule for its tourists, under which urinating in the sea has been made illegal. Tourists who urinate in the sea will have to pay a fine of £645. Vigo’s council has passed a law prohibiting urinating on the beach or at sea.

Under the new rules, urination in the seaside area has been made a violation of hygiene rules. The council, however, has not clarified how this rule will be implemented on local beaches. The Vigo Council has banned the use of soap and shampoo in the sea, as well as the washing of dishes in sea water. Apart from this, fine will also have to be paid for smoking cigarettes on the beach.

The council said that it will build toilets on the beaches, which will also become a means of dealing with sea grass. Vigo is not the first Spanish coastal city to implement such restrictions, but in 2017 San Pedro in the Spanish southeastern city of Murcia also banned urinating in the sea. San Pedro also banned sunbathing naked, bat-and-ball games and towel-lined beach space.

Tourists are also fined €750  for wearing offensive clothing in San Pedro. A fine of up to €1,500  is also imposed for burning disposable utensils on the beach. Spain is keeping a close watch on the clothes and drugs of its visitors this year so that the surrounding of public places is not spoiled.

Last week, several restaurants on the popular holiday island of Mallorca came together to announce a ban on certain revealing clothing. In fact, some tourists wear a certain type of clothing for a wine party, which has been banned by the Zipper restaurant group.
