Colin and Donna Craig-Brown, who live near Hamilton, New Zealand, harvested a huge potato on their farm in August last year. It came out of the vegetable farm behind his house. Both of them named the potato Dug. The weight of this one potato was 17.19 pounds ( 7.8 kg.) Which made it a competitor to be the world’s largest potato. Now scientists want to find out whether it is potato or something else by examining its DNA.
Colin told when they took that potato out of the ground, they were surprised. Because its size was huge. His wife and he suspect that that was some kind of fungal growth. Because many other big potatoes came out with it, but this was the biggest of them. They were surprised and upset to see the consignment of big potatoes.
Colin did the first test of potatoes at his home. When he ate it, he shouted to his wife and said that honey, it seems like a potato. After this Colin and Donna together sent its name to the Guinness Book of Records. If Dug is really a potato, then it can break the previous world record for the heaviest potato i.e. 10.58 pounds ( 4.8 kg.) At present, the team of Guinness Book of Records wants to first confirm that it is potato. That’s why they want to get its DNA tested.
Colin asked the Guinness Book people if you think I have genetically modified it. Because of the suspicion of the Guinness Book, Colin and Donna were saddened. Colin is also ready on the DNA test, because he wants it to turn out to be a potato and he can end the doubts of the investigators of the Guinness Book of Records and Colin is proved right.
Colin and Donna are currently concerned that by the time the investigation takes place, Dugg will lose weight. It will dry out and molds will come out in it. That’s why they have kept the potatoes in the freezer by covering them in a special way so that the process of drying it slows down.
