The sun formed a spot three times bigger than the earth, the scientists are worried about a big solar storm [TKB Science]

Scientists have seen a spot three times bigger than the Earth on the Sun. This spot has doubled in the last 24 hours. It is risky because this may cause a moderate solar storm. Because if a solar storm comes, many satellites can be affected. The work of GPS, TV communication and radio may be disrupted. SpaceWeather.com writer Tony Phillips wrote on Wednesday (June 22, 2022) that the size of this rapidly growing spot has doubled in just 24 hours. This can affect the Earth’s magnetic field. Due to the spots, colored light aurora can be seen on both the poles of the earth.

Scientists worried about fear of moderate solar storm

Tony Phillips said that if this spot produces a solar storm, then it will be at least M class. The sun has been very active these days. Because of this, Geomagnetic storms are coming. Which in scientific language is called (M class)  and (X class)  flares. It is sending flares of the strongest class, because the sun is active at this time. Which will last for the next 8 years. Because of this, there will be a possibility of solar storms.

Solar storm coming at the speed of millions of kilometers per hour

Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) is caused by a spot on the Sun. That is, a kind of explosion on the surface of the Sun. Due to this, one billion tons of charged particles spread in space at a speed of several millions kilometers per hour. When these particles hit the Earth, they disrupt many satellite networks, GPS systems, satellite TV and radio communications.

What are sun spots… how are they formed?

When the heat in some part of the sun is less than the other part, then spots are formed there. They are visible from a distance as small black and brown spots. A blemish can last from a few hours to a few weeks. The darker part inside the spots is called Umbra and the less dark outer part is called Pen Umbra.

What did NASA do for this?

Generally, CMEs are not very harmful. But NASA monitors the Sun all the time. Apart from this, NASA’s Parker Solar Probe mission keeps circling the Sun from time to time, giving information about its condition. Also, better understand the spots made by the Sun and space weather.
