Tensions have increased between Turkey and Greece over Aegean Island. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has asked his arch rival Greece to withdraw troops from the eastern Aegean islands. Erdogan said that I am not joking, I am speaking seriously. If this does not happen then its results will not be good.
Turkey says Greece is violating treaties that guarantee the unarmed status of the Aegean Islands. At the same time, Turkey also argues that the islands were handed over to Greece on the condition that they remain civilian. Greece and Turkey are allies of NATO, but there is a history of disputes on many issues.
It is said that Turkey and Greece have their own claims regarding gas reserves and there are huge differences between the two countries regarding many important areas of the Eastern Mediterranean. Both countries have been making their claims on many areas with the argument that they fall within their continental waters. Turkey says that we will never allow terrorist corridors to be built on the borders of our country. Hopefully Greece will not oppose our legitimate security concerns.
At the same time, on the statement of the President of Turkey, Greece says that Turkey has deliberately misinterpreted the treaties. Greek government spokesman Giannis Oikonomou said that Greek is known as the language of reason, freedom and justice. The strategy Turkey has chosen does not fall into any of these categories. Turkey must stop its aggressive behavior and rhetoric.
