‘Take care and be alert’, Modi government’s advisory to Indians living in Canada [TKB World]

The Government of India has issued an advisory for Indian students and others living in Canada. In fact, a “so-called” referendum was organized by extremist elements in Canada to demand a separate Khalistan. After which the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India has issued an advisory regarding the increasing hate crime against Indians.

The statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India said, “The Ministry of External Affairs and our Embassy in Canada have taken up these incidents with the Canadian authorities and requested them to investigate the said offenses and take appropriate action.” No action has been taken so far against the perpetrators of these incidents in Canada.

“In view of the increasing incidence of crimes described above, Indian citizens and students in Canada and those visiting Canada for travel/education are advised to exercise caution and remain vigilant,” the statement said. The Indian Embassy has raised the issue of safety of Indians living in Canada and the fact that radical elements were allowed to carry out anti-India activities in Canada.

Canada will not recognize the so-called referendum

During its weekly briefing, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, “There was a derisive exercise by extremist and radical elements in Canada. The matter has been taken up with the Canadian authorities. Canadian officials have said that they respect India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and that they will not recognize the so-called referendum in Canada.

He added, “However, we find it highly objectionable that politically motivated exercises are allowed to take place by extremist elements in a friendly country. You all are aware of the history and violence in this regard. Government of India Government of Canada in this matter.” Will continue to put pressure on them.”

Register on Indian student embassy website

Meanwhile, Indian citizens and students from India in Canada have also been asked to register with the High Commission of India in Ottawa or the Consulate General of India in Toronto and Vancouver through their respective websites, or through the MADAD portal madad.gov.in . “With the help of registration, the embassy will be able to better liaise with Indian nationals in Canada in case of any need or emergency,” the advisory said.
