Sunglasses Choosing Tips: Keep note before buying sunglasses, otherwise your eyes may get damaged! [TKB Health]

The summer season has arrived, so wear sunglasses to protect yourself from the scorching sun. Wearing sunglasses prevents bright sunlight from hitting your eyes, due to which you can see easily even in sunlight. It further protects the eyes from ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun and from bright light reaching your eyes directly. UVA and especially UVB rays damage the surface tissues of the eye, the cornea and the lens, which can lead to a number of eye and vision problems over time. There are many types of sunglasses available in the market nowadays. With time it has emerged as a fashion statement.

Many people buy any dark colored sunglasses in the market but one should avoid doing so. According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, before buying any sunglasses, some things must be kept in mind so that you can buy good sunglasses to protect your eyes.

Buy sunglasses with 100 percent UV block

While buying sunglasses, ensure that they block 100 percent UV rays and provide protection from them. Some sunglasses claim to have UV blocking up to 400 NM, they are the only sunglasses that block 100 percent UV.
While buying sunglasses, do not go by their color. Dark colored glasses do not mean that the darker the glasses, the safer they will be for your eyes. Only sunglasses with 100 percent UV protection protect from UV rays.

Polarized lenses only reduce glare

Polarized lenses are designed to reduce glare reflected from reflective surfaces such as water or roads. They do not provide UV protection. Therefore, do not think that you can protect yourself from UV rays with polarized lenses. For this, you can buy sunglasses with polarized lenses with UV protection from the market.

Lens quality

It is important to keep a few things in mind before purchasing non-prescription sunglasses. For example, wear sunglasses and go to a flat place and see if the floor is visible to you. Both the lenses are similar, one is dark in color and the other is light.

Sunglasses size

To protect yourself from the sun, it is important to wear big size sunglasses so that the UV rays emanating from the sun are prevented from entering your eyes.

Color doesn’t matter

Sunglasses with colored lenses (such as amber or grey) do not block the sun as much. However, brown or pink colored lenses provide more contrast light. Athletes in sports like golf or baseball wear similar sunglasses.

Sunglasses have a layer of mirror finish on the lenses that prevents light from entering the eyes but this does not mean that they completely protect your eyes from UV light, so regardless of the color of the sunglasses, they completely block the UV lights. Buy protective sunglasses.

Avoid buying cheap glasses

People buy cheap glasses from the market. Actually, such sunglasses only have dark colored glass or plastic lenses which do not protect from UV rays in any way. Therefore, always buy glasses with 100 percent sunglass protection from a good place.
