Squirrels plague infected in California, tourist places banned [TKB-World]

Chipmunks have been found positive for plague disease in the US state of California. Chipmunks are a type of small squirrel. After this, the government of the state of California and the local administration have decided to close some areas, so that the movement of humans does not happen in those areas. These include famous tourist destinations South Lake Tahoe, Kiva Beach and Taylor Creek.

Recently, during a routine screening process of rats, squirrels and other rat-like species were examined in South Lake Tahoe, they found infected. The report of which has been published in local newspapers and media organizations. According to these reports, from August 6, South Lake Tahoe, Kiva Beach and Taylor Creek areas will be closed to the general public. According to The Tahoe Daily Tribune, no human contact or plague has been reported so far.

According to the California Department of Health, the plague-causing bacterium Yersinia pestis is commonly found in some areas of California. In this, the South Lake Tahoe area of El Dorado County is prominent. Last year, a man was infected with the plague in the South Lake Tahoe area. This was the first case to come up in the last five years.

In the year 1300, due to the plague, the Black Death infection spread in Europe. In today’s time also plague happens but very few cases come to the fore. Because in today’s time there is a cure for plague. According to the CDC, there are about seven cases of plague in America every year. Most cases are seen in remote areas of New Mexico, northern Arizona, southern Colorado, California, southern Oregon and western Nevada.

According to the CDC, Africa has seen the highest number of plague cases since 1990. This disease is spread by rodents i.e. animals like rats. Especially from rats, squirrels, chipmunks and flies flying around them. Plague infection in humans is caused by the bite of flies that roam near these organisms. Or you may have come in contact with the body tissue or body fluids of these rats, squirrels.

California officials have said that an order has been issued to stop people from going to places where there is a fear of plague infection. From August 6, people will be prohibited from roaming in these areas. El Dorado County Public Health Officer Dr. Bob Hartman said people have been urged not to feed squirrels, rats and chipmunks in areas such as picnic sites, campground areas. Or do not touch these sick or dead creatures.

Dr. Bob told that an appeal has also been made to the people to try to keep their pets away from these rats, squirrels and chipmunks. Install a mouse trap, wear long pants, use a spray that kills insects and flies. Also, stay away from places where you are likely to have these creatures or have flies roaming around them.

The California Health Department and the local administration have decided that they will now conduct surveys in other areas as well. So that the situation of plague in the entire state can be assessed. Also, during the Corona period, there will be a problem with the spread of other diseases, so the US government wants to prevent the spread of all kinds of other diseases.

Plague disease infects very few people in today’s time. It is an infectious disease. It causes fever, weakness and headache. Even if there is an infection, the risk of dying from it is only 10 percent. Usually at this time around 600 cases of plague are reported every year around the world.

Plague disease bacteria and infected organisms have also been used as biological weapons in earlier times. There are old documents in China and Medieval Europe, in which the corpses of creatures killed by the plague were used as bio-weapons.
