Russia-Ukraine War: Women and children are allowed to leave the country, but not men [TKB WORLD]

The Russian army’s attack on Ukraine continues for the third day. Thousands of Ukrainians are crossing the border to neighboring countries in the west in search of a safe haven following the continuing Russian airstrike on the capital Kiev. Most of the asylum seekers in neighboring countries are women, children or elderly people. In fact, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued an order that all the citizens of the country who are eligible to join the army, they cannot leave the country.

Daria, a woman who arrived in Przemysl, Poland, from Ukraine’s capital Kiev, wept and told that men were being pulled down from the train. Daria said that men who are traveling with their children are also being de boarded from the train. At the same time, 68-year-old woman Wilma Sugar was going to take refuge in Hungary with her 47-year-old son from Uzhorod in Ukraine, but her son was thrown off the train. He had to leave her side crying. Wilma Sugar told that she has now reached Jahoni, Hungary. The woman told that the Ukrainian authorities are treating the people with civility. They are telling men that their first duty is to protect the country.

People running from big cities to villages

Ukrainians are fleeing from big cities like Kiev to rural areas amid Russian attacks. Thousands of people left for Kiev by train from Mariopol, Ukraine. However, they did not go to Kiev and got down at the station in the small towns on the way. These people believe that the Russian army will not attack civilians.

More than 100K people left Ukraine

Filippo Grandi, the High Commissioner of the Department of Refugee Problems at the United Nations, has told that in the last 48 hours, more than 50 thousand citizens of Ukraine have reached other countries as refugees. So far more than 100K people have left the country. Most of these people have reached Poland and Moldova. However, the migration phase is still going on and if the situation of war continues like this, then soon this figure may increase to 4 Millions.

Neighboring countries opened doors for refugees

Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Moldova are providing asylum, food and legal aid to Ukrainians amid the war. These countries have also relaxed their normal border procedures. People of Ukraine are also being exempted from the COVID-19 test when they cross the border here. There have been many such scenes in Poland, when people of Ukraine are crossing the border with their pets by foot, car or train and the Polish authorities are welcoming them.

Hungary and Poland welcoming refugees

German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock has said that the European Union will give asylum to all people coming from Ukraine. In the midst of the Russia-Ukraine war, a different face of Poland and Hungary has come to the fore. The governments of both countries are welcoming refugees, but until now both countries have been refusing asylum to people from the Middle East and Africa. In 2015, when 100,000 Syrians arrived in Europe in the midst of the war, Hungary built a wall to block them from entering the country.
