There has been a demand from the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to expel Russia, China and Pakistan. United Nation’s Executive Director Hillel Neuer made this demand on Wednesday. It is being told that in this regard, voting can be held in the UN on Thursday.
This demand has been raised on Russia’s attack on Ukraine and human rights abuses. Welcoming the delegates to the 14th Geneva Summit, Neuer said it was the second time in history that some UNSC members could be expelled from the Council. On the other hand, America announced that we and other European countries will work together for Ukraine. Neuer said that the victim of persecution has to be empowered and uplifted Ukraine. He said that steps needed to be taken to suspend Russia from the council to protect human rights and democracy. Neuer also questioned the membership of non-democratic countries in the council. He claimed that Russia was certain to be expelled from the Human Rights Council, as only a few members would vote for him.
US ambassador opposes Russia
On Tuesday, US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas Greenfield said Russia should not be on a council that aims to promote respect for human rights. He said that Russia is using its membership in the council to spread propaganda that it cares about human rights, but that Russia’s participation in the council raises questions about its credibility, undermining the entire United Nations. Regarding Russia, the US ambassador said that 68 percent of the council is non-democratic countries. For example, Eritrea, who have slave laborers. Libya which persecutes African migrants. Mauritania where slavery still exists. Pakistan which hosts terrorists.
