A new controversy bubbled regarding 5G telecom services in the US. Various airlines worried about adverse effect on flights services due to 5G. The reason for worry is the device made for aircraft in the third decade of the last century.
Aircraft have a device called a radio altimeter which is introduce to airline about 100 years ago. With the help of altimeter, the pilot gets to know the height of the plane from the ground and the distance from other objects easily. The reading from the altimeter helps to fly the aircraft in the accurate range as assigned . Aviation experts are worry that the bandwidth auctioned for 5G service in the US is very close to the bandwidth that the altimeter operates on, which may badly affect the reading of altimeter. Any error in the reading of the altimeter could be fatal to the aircraft which may bring many accidents.
In other countries auction for 5G telecom service have kept the bandwidth in a safer scale compare to auction for 5G than in the US. So there is no danger in the reading of the altimeter due to 5G in other countries. But telecom companies AT&T and Verizon in the US say they have made necessary preparations in this regard and 5G services will not pose any threat to any flights data and their altimeter. The companies have also agreed not to provide 5G service by creating a buffer zone around the airport or any flight hub. At present, the eyes of the whole world are on the developments in America related to flight, altimeter and 5G band.
