Pakistan may remain in ‘Grey List’ till next FATF session [TKB World]

Pakistan, which promotes and finances terrorism, is expected to remain in the ‘Grey List‘ of FATF till next year. According to a report, the three-day session of the Paris-based Financial Action Task Force (FATF) meet from October 19 to October 21.

The report, quoting sources in German media house Deutsche Welle, said that the decision of the global body to take Pakistan out of the ‘Grey List‘ could be taken in the next session to be held in April 2022.

In June, the FATF placed Pakistan on its ‘grey list‘ after finding it failed in its money laundering probe. Islamabad was asked to investigate and prosecute senior leaders and commanders of UN-designated terrorist groups, including Hafiz Saeed and Masood Azhar.

Pakistan was placed on the gray list by the FATF in June 2018 and was given an action plan to complete it by October 2019. Since then, Pakistan has remained on that list due to its failure to comply with the FATF order.

In February also Pakistan got a setback from FATF

Pakistan also got the task in February 2021 that if Pakistan fulfills certain conditions of FATF, then it can be excluded from the list. Pakistan showed its inability to meet 3 out of 27 parameters. After which gray status was retained.

Pakistan was in the gray list in 2020 too

Pakistan continues to remain in the gray list of FATF. Pakistan then could not fulfill 6 parameters out of 27 parameters. Then Pakistan was advised that Pakistan needs to pay more attention to its country.
