The whole world is immersed in concern about the new variant of corona virus infection, Omicron. After first being found in South Africa, Omicron has now spread to at least 30+ countries around the world. Not only this, it is feared to spread to more countries. In this context, World Health Organization (WHO) President Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has given update regarding the case.
WHO Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “Omicron variants have attracted global attention. At least 30+ countries in four of the six WHO regions have now reported Omicron cases and we expect this number to increase.”
Corona cases increased in Africa, Western Pacific and European Countries
The WHO has said that cases of corona virus have increased during the last week in Africa, the Western Pacific and European regions. However, he said that there has been a reduction of 10 percent in the worldwide deaths due to Covid-19.
The United Nations Health Agency has said in its weekly report that cases in Africa have increased by 93 percent. However, it cautions against over-interpreting these figures, largely due to “batch reporting” of antigen tests by South Africa.
The organization said cases of this form have been found in only a few countries, but it has spread to four of the six World Health Organization regions. Till Friday, a total of more than 280 million cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed and more than 5.2 million people have lost their lives.
