The International Energy Agency (IEA) said that in the last year i.e. 2021, there has been a 6 percent increase in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions globally. That is, 36.3 billion metric tons. This is a record. Never before did CO2 come out in such a large quantity.
The IEA said that the record so far was 2 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) globally. Which was a history. But last time this history also ended. It is unexpected that the level of pollution should have reduced due to the lockdown during the Corona period. But this did not happen. This means that the demand for coal has increased in the field of power generation. Pollution caused by coal only increases the amount of carbon dioxide.
Global energy-related CO2 emissions rose by 6% in 2021, rebounding to their highest level in history. The annual rise in CO2 emissions of over 2 billion tonnes, the largest ever in absolute terms, was driven mainly by increased use of coal.
Coal consumption increased due to shortage of natural gas
In the year 2021, along with meeting the energy demand, the demand for coal increased in view of the adverse weather and energy market conditions. The demand for coal increased as the price of natural gas rose. In lieu of renewable energy, coal was consumed more. The amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) also increased in the atmosphere.
China made the highest CO2 emissions
According to the IEA, China accounts for the largest share of carbon dioxide emissions globally. In China, carbon dioxide emissions have increased by 750 million metric tons between 2019 and 2021. China was the only country that achieved economic growth between the years 2020 and 2021. Any other country has tolerated losses due to the Corona period. China made 33 percent of the world’s carbon dioxide (CO2) last year.
