Mahashivaratri Puja: Puja method, rules, story and everything (TKB-Update)

Mahashivaratri is very special day ,special worship of Lord Shiva is offered on this day. As per Hindu panchang  Shivaratri comes every month, but Chaturdashi of Falgun month is considered to be of special importance and celebrated as Mahashivratri. It is celebrated as union of Shiva and Shakti. According to Hindu religious beliefs all the pray and wishes accepted in this auspicious day.

Mahashivaratri Puja :

This year 2021 holy festival of Mahashivaratri will be celebrated on 11 March. On this day Goddess Parvati is also worshiped along with Shiva . As per Hindu belief worshiping at night on Shivaratri is considered to be most fruitful. Lord Shiva is worshiped on this day with  flowers, bilvapatra, hemp, dhatura, plum, barley hair, amar manjari, mandar pusha, raw milk of cow, sugarcane juice, curd, native ghee, honey, Ganges water, clear water, camphor, incense, lamp, Cotton, sandalwood, panch fruits, panch maeva, panch rasa, gand roli, perfume, molly janeu.

Why Maha Shivaratri celebrated?

There are many stories behind celebrating of Mahashivaratri. According to the most famous Hindu belief this festival is celebrated as the night of union of Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It is also believed that Parvati was married to Lord Shiva on this auspicious day. There is also a belief that on this day Shiva appeared to the world as 64 Shivalinga. Out of which people were able to find only 12 of his form as Shivalinga, which we know as the 12 Jyotirlingas.

Pooja Muhurta:

Maha Shivaratri is on Thursday 11 March 2021. The most auspicious time of Mahashivratri Puja is consider from 12:06 AM to 12:55 AM, March 12. Other auspicious time of Maha Shivaratri Puja – Night First Prahar Puja 06:27 PM to 09:29 PM, Night Second Prahar Puja 09:29 PM to 12:31 AM (March 12), Night Third Prahar Puja from March 12 12:31 AM 03:32 AM, Night IV Prahar Puja from 03:32 AM to 06:34 AM. As per Hindu Panchang Chaturdashi Tithi will start from 02:39 PM on March 11 and end at 03:02 PM on March 12.

Shivaratri fasting time from 06:34 AM to 03:02 PM on 12 March.
