From today the exchange of 2000 rupee note will start. As soon as the banks open, people will be able to exchange the 2000 rupee notes available with them by going to the branch of the banks. The Reserve Bank (RBI) has issued guidelines for exchange of notes. 2000 notes up to Rs 20,000 can be easily exchanged in banks at one go. At the same time, there is no limit for depositing Rs 2,000 notes in the bank account. But for this the rules of the bank’s deposit have to be followed.
No need to fill any form
The Reserve Bank has clearly said that to exchange 2000 rupee notes, no form will have to be filled in the bank, nor will any identity card be required. You can change 10 notes of 2000 rupees at a time. 2000 rupee notes taken out of circulation can be changed till 30 September 2023. All banks have completed their preparations as per the instructions of RBI regarding the process of note exchange.
Shaktikanta Das appealed to the people
RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has appealed to the people not to panic about changing the notes. People have more than 4 months time, they can easily go to any branch and exchange 2000 notes. The Reserve Bank of India has decided to discontinue the Rs 2000 note under the ‘Clean Note Policy’. Under this policy, RBI will gradually withdraw 2000 notes from the market.
Special window arrangement
RBI has said that banks should provide some necessary facilities to the public in view of the summer season. Banks are advised to make arrangements for shady waiting area in the branch keeping in view the summer season. Apart from this, proper basic facilities like drinking water facility etc. should be provided. According to the guidelines of RBI, there will be separate special windows for changing 2000 notes in banks, where you will be able to easily change 2000 rupee notes.
2000 notes will be exchanged at the correspondent center
People who live in rural areas can also get 2000 rupee notes exchanged by visiting the Business Correspondent Center. But only 2000 notes up to 4000 rupees can be changed at the center. Business correspondents work like a bank. They help the villagers to open bank accounts and also do transactions.

RBI has regional offices at 31 places across the country, but Rs 2000 notes are issued at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi. Can be changed in Delhi, Patna and Thiruvananthapuram.
How to exchange notes for those who do not have an account?
The Reserve Bank has clearly said that any person can exchange Rs 2,000 notes up to a limit of Rs 20,000 at a time from any branch of any bank in the country. That is, it is not necessary to have an account in the bank. The Reserve Bank has also said that the facility of changing notes will be free of cost.
