How much vaccine is saving from corona, in India-AIIMS study [TKB Health]

Studies are being done around the world on corona and vaccine. Meanwhile, the results of the first study conducted by AIIMS Delhi on genome sequence in India have come out. This study was done to know the effect of infection during the second wave of corona among those who got the vaccine.

This study was done in April-May 2021 on people who were infected with corona who had got the vaccine. The study said that despite the high viral load of the coronavirus, none of them died of the disease.

Out of 63 cases of infection included in the study, 36 patients had received both doses of the vaccine while 27 people had received one dose. Of these, 10 patients had Covishield and 53 people had Covaccine.

B.1.617.2 was found in most of these samples. It was present in 23 samples (63.9% of samples). Out of this, 12 people got both the vaccine and 11 people got one dose. Four samples had the B.1.617.1 and one sample had the B.1.1.7 variant.

According to the report, antibodies were present in all these patients and despite this they got infected. In these too, emergency was needed like the common patients of Corona. Because of this, immunoglobulin G antibodies (IgG) have been suspected of being seen as a protective immunity against COVID-19. The new AIIMS report is unique in many respects.

However, despite the persistent fever for 5-7 days, the infection was not found to be so fatal in all these people who took the vaccine. The average age of the patients included in the study was 37 (21-92), of which 41 were men and 22 were women. None of these patients had any pre-existing disease.

These people also had the B.1.617.2 variant, so samples of those taking both or one dose of the vaccine were reviewed. However, no significant difference was found between both and those taking one dose. Apart from this, which vaccine was given to the sample with which variant, it was also investigated. In this also no significant difference was observed.

Of the infections analyzed, 10 patients (8 people with both doses of vaccine and 2 in one dose) had immunoglobulin antibodies assessed by chemiluminescent immunoassay (Siemens). Of these, 6 patients had IgG antibodies a month before infection, while 4 people were found to have antibodies after infection.
