Full pink moon on April 16, know why it got this name and scientific importance [TKB Science]

Full Pink Moon will emerge on Saturday i.e. 16 April 2022. The reason is that pink flowers grow a lot in this season. That’s why it is called Pink Moon of April. You will see this color of the moon only after midnight. But people in different places of the world will be able to see it between April 15 and April 18. Gordon Johnson, program executive of the Science Mission Directorate of NASA Headquarters in Washington, says that we can call this weekend Full Moon Weekend. Full Moon occurs up to once a month, when the Sun, Earth, and Moon fall on an imaginary 180-degree line.

Andrea Jones, a science communicator working at NASA, says that the orbit of the moon is five degrees different from the orbit of the Earth. That’s why it always remains either slightly above the earth’s shadow, or it is below. Because of this, sunlight illuminates the nearest part of the moon. That is, the part that remains towards the earth.

Lunar eclipse next month

During a full moon, sometimes the shadow of the earth falls partially or completely on the moon, causing a lunar eclipse. The next Lunar Eclipse is going to happen on 15-16 May 2022. At the time of eclipse, the color of the moon becomes red like rusted iron. Which people call Blood Moon. Usually, the moon appears red when the light of the sun passes through the earth and falls on the moon.

April Full Moon or Pink Moon has many other names. Such as – Sprouting Grass Moon, Egg Moon, Fish Moon etc. Jews also call it Pisac or Passover Moon. They have a holiday named Passover from Friday to Sunday. In Christians it is called Paschal Moon. The date of Easter is decided only after the arrival of this moon.
