First case of corona found in North Korea in two years [TKB World]

The first case of corona has been found in North Korea in two years. After the confirmation of the new case, Kim Jong Un has appealed that the measures to prevent corona should be increased further and they should be strictly followed. The Korean Central News Agency said that samples of some people were examined in the capital Pyongyang on Thursday. In these, the Omicron variant of Corona was confirmed. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), by the end of 2020, North Korea tested samples of 13,259 suspected people whose reports came negative.

Instructions given to strictly follow the rules of Corona

The agency said that after the confirmation of the Omicron variant, Kim Jong Un called a meeting of the party’s politburo and other officials and announced that they should strictly implement the rules protecting against corona and get people to follow it. KCNA said that the aim of the meeting was to root out Corona in the shortest possible time. On the other hand, experts say that given the poor health system of North Korea, the country may have to face serious consequences of Corona. During the meeting, Kim called on officials to eliminate its source as soon as possible to stabilize and prevent transmission of the virus.

Travel and trade to other countries was banned for two years

Before the spread of coronavirus around the world in early 2020, North Korea took serious and strict steps to stop the virus. The government had quarantined people with corona-like symptoms and stopped travel and trade to other countries for two years. North Korea’s economy suffered a lot due to ban in trade and visitors’ entry to protect against Corona, after the sanctions already facing nuclear weapons and missiles.
