Facebook on Friday rolled out the end-to-end encryption feature for voice and video calls in its Messenger. Facebook has announced this through a blog post. Along with this, the company has also made changes in its Disappearing Message feature. Also, some users may also see new test features related to encryption.
Facebook Messenger got end-to-end encryption for text messages in 2016, when Facebook added a ‘secret conversation’ option to its app. Now its support has also been given for calling.
Facebook said that this feature is being added because people’s interest in voice and video calls has increased. The company said that more than 150 million video calls are made every day through Messenger.
Facebook’s chat app WhatsApp already offers end-to-end encryption or E2EE for calling. With this feature, only the sender and receiver can see the encrypted data. Let us tell you that other video calling apps like Zoom, Signal and Apple FaceTime also offer encryption.
Earlier there was talk that Facebook may bring a unified end-to-end encryption for all its messaging services – WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram. But so far this has not been seen. Apart from the video, a small update has also been released for text conversion.
When you set a message to be disabled, you will get many options for its expiry. In this you will get the option from 5 seconds to 24 hours. Earlier, the option of 1 minute, 15 minutes, one-hour, four-hour and 24-hour was available in this.
