Emergency meeting at UNSC on Afghan issue, UNSC appeal – unite the international community [TKB-World]

United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appealed to the international community to unite in the ongoing emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Monday regarding the situation arising after the Taliban occupation in Afghanistan. He said the international community must unite to ensure that Afghanistan is never again used as a forum or safe haven for terrorist organizations.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said, “I urge the UNSC and the international community to work united against the global terrorist threat in Afghanistan.”

He said that the international community should speak in one voice to protect human rights in Afghanistan. I call on the Taliban and all parties to respect and protect international humanitarian law and the rights and freedoms of all individuals.

Taliban urged to exercise restraint

The Secretary-General of the United Nations further said in the emergency meeting that I urge all parties, especially the Taliban, to exercise utmost restraint to protect lives and ensure that humanitarian needs are met. Thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes because of the conflict. He also said that I urge all countries to accept refugees.

I am talking about the millions of Afghan girls and women who are about to lose their freedom to go to school and participate in political, economic and social life.
