These things can stay fresh for a long time in the fridge. But experts also say that some fruits and vegetables should be avoided in the refrigerator. 1.Cucumber

Cucumber is generally considered a vegetable. According to the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, cucumbers tend to rot rapidly if kept below 10 degrees Celsius for more than three days. Therefore, avoid keeping cucumber in the fridge. Instead of keeping it in the fridge, keep the cucumber in a normal place away from direct sunlight.

According to experts, cucumbers should also not be kept near fruits like avocados, tomatoes or melons. This is because such fruits release ethylene gas when ripe and cucumber can turn yellow quickly due to exposure to that gas. Although this gas is not harmful, but it cooks fruits or vegetables faster.

2. Tomato

According to experts, tomatoes should also always be stored at room temperature. Keeping it in the refrigerator affects the taste, texture and aroma of tomatoes, so keep tomatoes in a cool and dark place away from sunlight. The hot rays coming from the window accelerate the process of ripening of tomatoes. Tomatoes kept out of the fridge are likely to last a week longer than tomatoes kept in the fridge.

3. Onion

According to the Onion Association, onions should be stored in a cool, dry, dark and well-ventilated room. This is because onions absorb moisture easily. Onions may begin to sprout or root if the temperature or humidity is too high. If onions are kept at cool room temperature, onions can last for more than two months.

4. Potato

It is considered best to keep potatoes in a basket in the open. Avoid keeping it in the fridge. The cold temperature replaces the starchy complex carbohydrates found in potatoes and the potato taste will turn sweet when cooked. So avoid keeping them in the fridge. Yes, after cooking potatoes, you can keep them in the fridge if you want.

5. Garlic

Garlic should also not be kept in the fridge. Because they also absorb moisture very quickly. Therefore, like onions, keep them in a cool, dry place. At the same time, they need air, so never keep garlic closed in a bag.
