The conflict between Israel and Hamas for the last 11 days finally calmed down by going to the ceasefire on Thursday. According to Israeli media reports, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s security cabinet has approved a unilateral ceasefire to halt the 11-day military operation in the Gaza Strip. A Hamas official has also confirmed this. According to the official, this ceasefire will be effective from 2 am on Friday. The Israeli cabinet has confirmed the ceasefire but has not given the time for its implementation. It is believed that this decision has been taken under pressure from America.
Earlier on Wednesday, Netanyahu said after a visit to the military headquarters that he ‘greatly appreciates the cooperation of the US President’, but that the country will continue to campaign ‘to bring peace and security back to the people of Israel’.
He said that he was ‘committed to continuing the campaign till its objective is fulfilled’. Shortly before Netanyahu’s statement, Biden appealed to Netanyahu to bring “significant stress reduction”.
According to a statement issued by the White House about the talks between the two leaders, it was the most severe public pressure ever put on Biden by an American colleague. It said that in a telephonic conversation the US President asked Netanyahu to move towards the “ceasefire”.
Israeli ambassador walkout from UN Security Council
At the same time, when the Palestinian representative on the UN Security Council started speaking on Thursday, Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Ardan left from there. Earlier, Ardan had said that this war is not between Israel and Palestine, but between Israel and the terrorist organization Hamas.
In a conversation with CBS News of America, Gilead Ardan said that we did not want this struggle. We have tried as much as possible to stop the conflict, but Hamas was committed to inciting violence. Now we are ruining this terrorist machine amid the possibility of ceasefire. We are looking for a cure for this problem, not just the ointment bandage.
At least 227 Palestinians were killed
The fight between Israel and Hamas began 11 days ago when militant groups fired long-range rockets at Jerusalem. Earlier, the situation was tense due to clashes between Palestinian protesters and the Israeli police at the Al-Aqsa Mosque. After this, Israel launched hundreds of air strikes targeting Hamas. Hamas and other militant groups fired more than 4,000 rockets into Israeli cities.
Gaza’s health ministry said at least 227 Palestinians, including 64 children and 38 women, were killed and 1,620 people were injured. Hamas and Islamic Jihad have said that at least 20 fighters have been killed, while Israel says at least 130 fighters have been killed. Nearly 58,000 Palestinians have left their homes
