An Amtrak train derailed after colliding with a dump truck in Missouri, US, on Monday. According to media reports, many people died in this accident and more than 50 people are said to be injured.
Amtrak Media Center has given information about this accident on its website. The center wrote, “On June 27 at 12:42 p.m. CT, Southwest Chief Train 4 from Los Angeles to Chicago collided with a truck while heading east on the BNSF track. The train was followed by 8 coaches and 2 engines derailed. The accident happened in Mendon, near Missouri.”
243 passengers were on the train
According to the company’s statement, about 243 passengers and 12 crew members were on board the train. After the accident, the company said that the local authorities are helping the passengers. “The Incident Response Team has been activated and we are deploying emergency workers to the scene to assist our passengers, employees and their families,” the company said. Toll-free number has also been issued by the company for any kind of help to the passengers and employees.
No information on number of deaths
Ambulance service superintendent Eric Mackenzie, who was there, told CNN that several people were reported dead in the accident. In addition, a spokesman for Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop B said officials were still trying to figure out the number of deaths. He told that the train collided with a dump truck, after which this accident happened. He also informed that a school has been converted into a primary health center for those with minor injuries. State Governor Mike Parson has also expressed grief over the incident by tweeting.
