10 innocent people were killed in US airstrike, not terrorists; Defense Minister apologizes [TKB World]

On August 26, after the Taliban took over Afghanistan, there was a suicide attack on the Kabul airport. More than 200 people, including 13 American soldiers, were killed in this. ISIS-K claimed responsibility for the attack. After the attack, America also carried out a drone attack to take revenge. The US claimed that the mastermind of the Kabul attack was killed in this. But later questions started arising on this airstrike. Media reports claimed that innocent people were killed in this attack. Now America has also accepted it.

The US Defense Ministry said on Friday, “Investigation of the drone attack has revealed that only innocent people were killed in it and not ISIS terrorists as was previously believed.”

US Central Command commander General Frank McKenzie said the strike was a tragic mistake. Earlier on August 29, despite the death of 10 civilians in this strike, American officials were justifying it. 7 children were also among the dead in this attack.

The US claim was questioned in media reports. It was also said that the driver of the vehicle that was targeted was an employee of the American Humanitarian Organization for a long time. Also in the report it was said that there is no evidence that the vehicle contained explosives.

10 civilians killed in attack
McKenzie said, I am now convinced that 10 civilians, including seven children, were tragically killed in that attack. Further investigation has revealed that it is unlikely that the vehicle targeted in the strike and those killed were linked to ISIS-K and that they posed any direct threat to the US. McKenzie apologized for the mistake and said the US was considering paying compensation to the families of the victims.

US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, said two days after the attack, it appeared that it was an accurate strike. At least one of those killed was from ISIS, which claimed responsibility for the August 26 attack on the Kabul airport. 200 people, including 13 American soldiers, were killed in this attack.

US Defense Secretary apologizes
US Defense Secretary Lloyd J Austin also apologized for the deaths of 10 Afghan civilians in the US strike on 29 August.

According to a New York Times investigation report, 43-year-old Jemari Ahmadi was driving a 1996 model Toyota Corolla car when the US airstrike was carried out on August 29, which was destroyed in the attack. Nine family members including Jemari and seven children were killed in this airstrike. The US military claimed that the car contained explosives. Whereas water containers were kept in this car.
